November 2006 Tour of Finca La Abundancia:

PROGRESS AT THE NEW FARM

We built a trellis in front of the house for unique pole beans and local climbing squashes.

Peter brought a battery charger that produces over one hundred watts of power if one gets on and pedals.

We employed some local boys who wanted to work. Here they prepared the soil in a manner that is not known in Nicaragua.  First, they removed soil, then added manure at the bottom.

Last, they mixed the manure with soil and added back the best topsoil.

Chilo prepared posts for the guest house with used motor oil as a preservative.

Despues pusimos techo y paredes.

This was when we had the basic structure of the guest house in place. Afterwards we put up the roof and walls.
